If you haven’t noticed, I migrated by blog again.  About 9 months ago I posted about my switch from SharePoint to Orchard CMS for hosting my blog.  I wanted to love Orchard, and for the last 9 months have been trying to figure it all out and make it work.  I liked the idea of being on a .NET platform and trying to learn how to develop and customize Orchard, however, the reality of actually doing it frustrated me.  Before going any further, if you don’t know my background, I’m an infrastructure/hardware guy.  My degree is computer engineering, my SharePoint work consists primarily of Installations, Configurations, Administration, PowerShell scripts and development being something I tinker with for fun.  So, it doesn’t take much for development to frustrate me.  Orchard is definitely a quality platform, and what i was able to figure out, I really enjoyed working with on the platform.  However, given my background and how I wanted to spend my time, the platform ended up just not being for me.

That being said, after trying to make Orchard CMS work for me, I decided to switch back to WordPress where the community and the development by the community is much larger than the community for Orchard CMS, and therefor much easier to achieve results I’m happy with.  I don’t spent hours trying to figure out how to do something or searching for plugins like I found myself doing for Orchard.  Maybe I didn’t spend enough time with it, maybe I could have figure it out, but for me it just wasn’t worth it.  I would rather spend my time playing with SharePoint and investing my time where it will better serve me in my career and running my company rather than something I thought might be fun.

So for now, I’m back on WordPress (running on Windows Microsoft Azure) and much happier and a lot less frustrated.  So, if you notice any missing images/comments/etc. let me know as I work out a few of items that didn’t quite migrate correctly.
