Better late than never, but here is my post on the October 2014 Public Updates and Cumulative Updates for SharePoint 2013.

First off, before installing the proceeding all my pre-update build numbers are 15.0.4649.1000 with is the September 2014 CU. Your environment maybe be different based on your build number, so as you read then, whenever you see build number 15.0.4649.1000 that is synonymous with whatever the current build level of your farm is.
Version 15.0.4649.1000

The most important thing to note is neither the PU nor the CU in the October 2014 updates will acutally update the farm build number. So while you’ve installed all the updates with build versions 15.0.4657.1000, 15.0.4659.1000 and/or 15.0.4659.1001 (October 2014 PUs and CUs) your Farm Build number will still be displayed as 15.0.4649.100.

After installing the PUs, I moved on to the CUs. The KB numbers of the CUs for October are the following (note, October was not an uber update, but several updates you must install one at time).

  • KB2880485 – 15.0.4659.1001
  • KB2880962 – 15.0.4659.1001
  • KB2889946 – 15.0.4659.1001
  • KB2899469 – 15.0.4659.1001

There are a few additional CUs if you are running SharePoint Addons such as the Documentum Connector and Project Server. You can find more on these at Todd Klindt’s blog – http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=346

Once again, due to this not being an uber update and the packages that are being installed, your build number still will NOT change.
